Aerial Gilbert, 62, is a blind beekeeper who grew up in Marin and got her first hive in 1971. She lost her sight in 1988, which at first impacted her beekeeping. But she returned to the craft in 2015 and now relies on her remaining senses to tell her what is going on with her bees. Aerial has been supported in this work by her mentor, Christine Kurtz, 51, a honeybee consultant and other 'bee buddies' in Marin. Surprisingly, her ten-year old guide dog, Splash, has never been stung!
The program features a talk from Aerial with SFBA's Taylor Capozziello passing along your questions and comments.
